Laura Gordon, MSW, LSSW, CSWA at Energy MattersShe/Her

I am a Clinical Social Work Associate (CSWA) and Licensed School Social Worker in the state of Oregon and I graduated with my MSW from Portland State University. My experience spans a variety of settings, including residential treatment for high-acuity clients, therapeutic and public schools, and specialized case management for unaccompanied minors released through the Office of Refugee Resettlement.

My approach to therapy is one of warmth, compassion, respect, creativity, and humor when appropriate (life is very long if you cannot laugh at the absurdity of it.) I work from a framework that is client-centered, humanistic, and utilizes Queer and intersectional feminist theories. I believe each individual has their own unique experience of the world that is shaped by the intersection of their identities, their experiences, and the communities they are a part of. You are the expert on your life and my goal is to understand your experience so that we can collaborate towards your therapeutic goals together.

Healing occurs in relationships, therefore, I am not a “blank slate” therapist. This means I will show up authentically- my identities, experience, knowledge, and lack thereof (I am happy to admit I don’t know everything!) will also be in the room with us. You are the focus of our sessions together, but in embracing my own human-ness, my goal is to create a safe space for you to do the same.

Starting therapy is brave, it is commitment to openness, compassion, and curiosity towards yourself, and sometimes it is messy, hard, and confusing- and when you are ready for it, it is absolutely worth it.

Outside of work I enjoy sewing, making ceramics, gardening, practicing Spanish and partaking in outside activities of many varieties. I also love trying new restaurants in the Portland area and taking long bike rides to ice cream shops.

As I am still working towards licensure, I am being supervised by Mohini Bolkhovitinov, LCSW.

In-person and teletherapy. I work with ages 10 and up.
